The hot, humid days of summer, paired with all the time spent working on the barn, along with various trips meant that the horses got a bit of a summer break. However, now that the fall/winter season is here, Baja is blessed with cooler, sunny, fresh-yet-still-warm weather, that is perfect for riding days.
So now the horses are started on a reconditioning schedule to help them build up their muscles properly. What this means is basically lots of lunging. Everything is done equally going both ways, so that muscles are developed evenly, and the focus is on transitions, through walk, trot and canter. This process is also a great learning time for Lucky, who was never taught to lunge, and is now figuring out how everything works.
Looking forward to hitting the trails soon! Check back again soon – we’ve got some exciting news coming up really soon!
