Equine Endurance Race

Centro Ecuestre Caballerizas Paraíso is preparing for its FIRST annual Endurance Race!

This is a Fundraising event to benefit our Therapeutic Riding programs.
Endurance racing is a worldwide sport that has yet to make it to Baja…until now. Three races will be offered: a 25-mile, a 10-mile, and a 5-K for our CAM school students (students with disabilities.)
Competitors must present their horses to the veterinary team on the 8th, from 1:00-3:00 PM
to confirm readiness to race and record “normal” vital signs. The horse and rider will be rechecked on March 9th, the morning of the race. For the 25-mile race, there is an extra veterinary check. At the 10-mile mark, the horse will only have a limited time to return to “normal” heart rate and respiration and prove soundness before continuing.
Event Day Schedule:
6:30 AM breakfast snack bar opens for business (open until 2:00 PM)
7:00 AM Veterinarians begin pre-race check
- event Secretary will be available
8:00 AM The first group of competitors start the 25-mile race.
- Small groups of competitors will start their races in 5-minute intervals. Beginning with 25-milers, then 10-milers, and finally the 5-K competitors.
10:00 AM (approximately) The first group of competitors will begin arriving for their second vet check before continuing to the second half of the 25-mile race.
- The 10-mile racers will be finishing and reporting to the veterinarians
11:00 Am (approximately) The 5-K racers will finish and report to the Veterinarians.
1:00 PM (approximately) The 25-mile racers will cross the finish line and report to the veterinarians
3:30 PM Awards Ceremony

- Concession stand re-opens: Food and drinks can be purchased at this time.
Places to Watch the Races:
- Chateau San Felipe Winery: watch from their rooftop dining area while enjoying wine and food. The horses will be approaching from the west through the desert, crossing the highway, and traveling down the winery’s road to the beach portion of the race. The winery is also a water stop for the horses.
- Hilltops east of Centro Ecuestre Caballerizas Paraíso (you need to hike to them.) Park at Centro Ecuestre Caballerizas Paraíso the morning of the 9th and a volunteer will show you where to hike. It is only a mile. Purchase a snack at our concession stand and enjoy the desert walk.
